As SMIT CREATOR’s Polish Team Leader I had an opportunity to take part in the project „All Together” held in Havran, Turkey.

The purpose of the project was to work with children with disabilities in order to support their full integration into society. The activities included playing with young disabled and helping them with their lessons. The main objective of the project was to find a workplace where a disabled young person could work as an intern. The project was successful and the children’s smiles are the best proof of this success. Our team consisted of people from 5 countries: Turkey, Poland, Lithuania, Spain and Bulgaria whose teamwork was seamless.

The experience was made even more enriching by the significant differences between our cultures. I remember Turkey as a beautiful and interesting country with very hospitable people. I recommend participating in similar projects.

The aim of this report is to make everyone know what you can experience on SMIT's projects. The last one was held in Havran, west Turkey. During nine days, from 20th to 29thJul, young people from five countries tried to gathered up their forces to help disabled kids socialize with local community.

For more than a week, Bulgarians, Lithuanians, Poles, Spanish and Turkish people had been working at the special programme that would have been apropriate for pupils from the special school for disabled students in Havran.
During the stay, we met kids several times to integrate with them, get to know their habits, abilties and plans. We talked with teachers, planned activities and found workplaces for the adolescent apprentices, that suited their needs and preferences. You cannot imagine how valuable experience was that. For a fully dexterous man it is unbelivable to appreciate the value of simple work and that was the way the kids felt about this practice.
Not only were we rewarded by their smiles and joy, but also the mayor of the city and local institutions noticed our efforts. The pictures of participants were published three times in Havran neewspapers and in a TV reportage. We were treated extremously heartily; the citizens fancied showing us surroundings, monuments and their own homes. They feasted with us after everyday sunset, treated with typical "cay" and more.
We also planned activities for ourselves: we went to the beach in the afternoons, made intercultural nights, when performing traditional dances, serving national dishes. We visited historical places as well. There were impressing ruins, extraordinary waterfalls, modern turkish villages, precious mosques and muslim cottages. Everything we have experienced was so genuine, we've tasted real Turkey, visited places off the beaten track.
I didn't found anyone disappointed with the whole trip. Thanks to Kasia, our keen-on-turkey-guide we had a possibility to communicate with non-english speakers and find out more about the rich history and culture of this asian country. We've learnt interesting things about the turkish cuisine, dress code, islam fundamentals and habits.
Summing up, I can admit that the participation in this project was a real pleasure. We came home fully satisfied with the places we've been, what we've seen, tasted and done. The cultural, religious, language gap was overcome with the commitment, hard work and sympathy. The purpose of the project "All together" was achieved.

Everyone can do something good to the other people when she or he stops thinking about herself/ himself. This is a report of an international project which took place in Havran, Turkey.

In July 2012 I had an incredible change to participate in a nine-day project which was organized in Havran, Turkey. This international project was attended by five young people between 18-25 years old who came from such representative countries like Lithuania, Spain , Bulgaria ,Poland and Turkey. The project was called ,, All together” and its main goal was to integrate the participants of the project with disabled children by supporting and helping them find a one-day job, which would match their personal interest and needs. At the beginning we had a chance to talk with the children and get to know each child in person to find out what kind of job she or he may be interested. Spending some time with those children by playing many different Turkish games, was a very joyful and unforgettable experience for all of us and I am sure it will be always remembered by us. This experience enriched each of us as a human being and showed us that being mentally or physically disabled doesn’t have to deprive people the joy of the life.
During a culture night I got some new knowledge of Spanish, Lithuanian and Bulgarian people, who in a very interesting way presented and showed information about their country, culture, cuisine, religion and language. We could also try their traditional food and learnt how to dance ,,polka”. After our activities we spend our free time laying on nearby beach, taking sunbath.
During our stay in Havran, where we were accommodated, we immediately noticed that the all local people living there, were very curious about us. Everywhere we went we were welcomed very warmly by them. They were very happy about having us as their foreign visitors what we had a chance to experience by inviting us to their dinner during the lent- Ramadan.
All the project was a wonderful adventure I belive that as a group of people from the different countries we were able communicate very well and met all the requirements of the project by learnig from each other. I would recommend it to everyone.
